Celtuce - Purple Sword 100 - 1000 Seeds Thick Crunchy Stems wōsǔn
A Chinese stem lettuce that has good tolerance to cold and cracking. A staple in Chinese cuisine, it originated in southern China and came to the U.S. in the 1800s. It's grown for the stalks and leaves, which can be used as Choi in stir-fries with meats. The leaves are greenish purple, and the stem skin is light purple. Best for Spring and Fall planting.
Prized for its mild, nutty, cucumber-like flavor and crisp, water-chestnut texture. Because the tough outer skin must be peeled away first, dishes are built entirely around the glossy, jade-green inner core of the stem, though the leaves are occasionally used too.
scientific name: Lactuca sativa var. asparagina
75-85 day maturity
